Ocean Green Discus Fish. The ocean green discus is one of the most beautiful tropical, freshwater fish available for an aquarium. As with many cultivated discus, these have been bred as show fish to enhance the beauty of a tropical aquarium, and they are spectacular. The ocean green discus has been specially cultivated to produce a brilliant green color that is as calming as the ocean itself. Young ocean green discus are a pale green almost translucent color, but as they mature, the green deepens considerably to an aquamarine that resembles the color of the sea. The fins and face of the ocean green discus have light black striations, but the body of the ocean green discus is without any markings. Cultivation has eliminated the vertical bars that are common to most naturally occurring discus.
The ocean green discus has a flat, round body, and it has large fins that extend back almost to the tail fin, contributing to its fullness. A full-grown ocean green discus will grow to about 8” long, and it is almost as tall as it is long. These beautifully green, rounded fish make a great addition to an aquarium, as their charming personalities are a pleasure to watch, and they make good tank mates for other non-aggressive fish. Whether in a school of all ocean green discus, or as part of a multi-colored rainbow hued group of discus, the ocean green discus is an attention grabber. When bred, the resulting ocean green discus fry resemble little, shiny green drops of sea water.
